Major galleries in Insa-dong, the ‘mecca of art’ where traditional and contemporary art coexist, have gathered together.
14 galleries in Insa-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul will hold the '2010 Insa Art Festival (INSAF)' from the 1st to the 7th of next month.
Meanwhile, this year's Insa Art Festival also organized a special exhibition called 'Good Choice, Artists of the Future' with the purpose of introducing the protagonists who will lead the future of Korean contemporary art. In the special exhibition, 117 graduate and undergraduate artists will exhibit 125 works including paintings, sculptures, photographs, media, and installations.
Yoon Yong-cheol, chairman of the Insa Art Festival steering committee, said, “This year, in addition to thematic exhibitions at existing galleries, we also prepared a special exhibition ‘Good Choice, Artists of the Future’ in which bright young artists participate, to bring together old and new generations.” Artists participating in the special exhibition were finally selected after deliberation among artists recommended by 10 to 15 major domestic art universities. ‘Good choice… 'The exhibition will be held on the 3rd and 4th floors of Gong Art Space in Insa-dong and exhibition rooms 1 and 2 of Woorim Gallery.
During the art festival period, galleries provide realistic explanations (docents) from curators for general enthusiasts and family visitors to help them enjoy the art more effectively. Participation programs are also held at some exhibition halls. In addition, in an effort to expand art collecting, we plan to provide an interest-free service for 6 months when purchasing works with a credit card. This is attracting attention because it is the first financial service attempted at a public art festival.
