Whispers of Earth, Stories of Ceramics

Exhibition Period: June 18 (Wed) - July 1 (Tue)

Jeong Gil-young, a Western-style artist, has developed a world of "thinking with the hands," crossing the boundaries of painting, ceramics, and installation art. After encountering the plasticity of clay and the transformations of fire in 2003, he delved into ceramics in earnest. Through experimental works combining traditional techniques with painting, he has developed a unique ceramic sculptural language.

His work transcends mere vessels, becoming painterly canvases that capture everyday stories. The drawings on plates, teacups, and objects convey narratives that are playful, humorous, philosophical, and lyrical. Freely crossing the boundaries of painting and ceramics, two-dimensional and three-dimensional, his work strives for "genreless art."

Capturing the sensibilities of life with his "thinking hands," he continues to create on snow, sand, and fabric, blurring the boundaries between art and everyday life. He has bridged Eastern and Western ceramics, traveling between Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, and Jingdezhen, China. Recently, he has reached a new turning point in Jeju Island with work combining ancient and modern ceramics.

Artist Jeong Gil-young's works are permanently collected by major institutions both domestically and internationally, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Tagawa City Museum of Art in Japan, the Museum of Modern Art in New Delhi, India, and the Songzhuang Art Museum in Beijing. His flexible and experimental aesthetic continues to attract attention on the international stage.
